The End of Playing It Safe
I'm killing off Chris's Notion
Tomorrow I'm posting a video that terrifies me.
Me rebranding from Chris’s Notion to Chris Punt, a personal brand.
I've been procrastinating this rebrand for over a year coming up with every excuse not to. But there's never a perfect moment to rip off the Band-Aid.
The truth is, I outgrew the Notion box months ago. Because while I was making Notion tutorials, I built a 6-figure business, grew my channel to 55K subscribers, and started an agency that goes beyond just Notion.
But I kept thinking like "Chris's Notion" instead of thinking like Chris Punt.
Every content idea had to fit in the Notion box. Every video had to serve the Notion audience. I was mentally trapped in a box that my past self built, while my present self had already evolved beyond it.
That's the thing about personal brands v.s. niche brands. When you niche down, you get clarity and focus. But you also get limitations. And eventually, those limitations start pulling you backward instead of pushing you forward.
It’s necessary when you start, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t niche down to Notion. But over the past year I realized I was creating content for my past self instead of my current self. And that's not sustainable. That's not growth.
So tomorrow, I'm stepping out of the Notion box. Not because I don't love Notion anymore, I still use it every single day, but because Notion was never the end goal. It’s simply just the best tool for building systems.
This rebrand isn't just about changing a channel name. It's about giving myself permission to share everything I've learned about building businesses, not just organizing them. It's about documenting the messy process of scaling an agency, creating digital products, and building the life I actually want.
Some people will unsubscribe. And that's okay. I don’t want people around me that will leave when I change, whether online or offline.
And over the past year if there's one thing I've learned, it’s that growth comes from following your fear…
Doing the obvious thing, you know you should be doing, but am afraid of doing it.
There’s no way around it, the only way out is through.
So that’s what tomorrow’s video is about. Me facing my fear and going through it.
To you and maybe everyone else, it’s just some random guy on the internet making another video. But for me it’s a very important internal shift and the beginning of a whole new chapter.
I’m saying “fuck you” to the safety nets and limitations I have put on myself.
Because those who would sacrifice freedom for safety, deserves neither.
Freedom > Safety
